The Cardinal Hickey Academy is
a Catholic School of the Archdiocese of Washington. It functions under
the authority of the Pastor of Jesus the Good Shepherd and adheres to the
policies of the Covenant Community and those of the Catholic Schools Office.
The Academy recognizes that
human dignity requires that each person act out of conscious and free
choice, as moved and drawn in a personal way from within. The Academy
embraces a sacred respect for this process and individual conscience.
The Academy serves the
educational needs of the Catholic families in northern Calvert County and
southern Anne Arundel County.
The unity in Love of the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as revealed to us by Jesus, is the inspiration,
sustaining grace, model and ideal for the Cardinal Hickey Academy school
community. The Academy offers a learning, caring environment alive with the
love of Jesus Christ. Parents, faculty, students, staff, pastors and
parishioners work in a collaborative spirit to reach common goals.
Frequent, informative meetings of Partners in Excellence (P.I.E.),
parent-teacher conferences, as well as weekly letters from the principal
ensure open, positive communication. Parent volunteers and the Academy
Board provide invaluable support to the Academy.
Faith
The first and central priority of the Academy is the
spiritual development of the students. They will be aware of the presence
of God as they grow in their relationship with Jesus. As they live out
their spirituality, they are nourished through the Sacraments of Eucharist
and Penance, liturgical worship, group and personal prayer and a strong
religious education program. As they grow in wisdom and age they experience
the joy of unselfish service, including outreach to the needy, and grow to
cherish the gift of Catholic Faith.
Excellence
In all its activities the Academy is motivated by a
commitment to excellence. Our program of academic excellence places a
strong priority upon reading, writing and mathematics. A comprehensive,
age-appropriate technology plan is employed. Music, the arts and foreign
language studies complement the entire academic program. Integrated units
of study provide holistic learning.
The Academy develops the total child by encouraging spiritual, intellectual,
physical, social and emotional growth.
